Kamrul Ahsan Sadhan, joint secretary of the Gulshan thana unit of the BNP, was shot dead by two assailants in the Gudaraghat area of Dhaka’s Badda on Sunday night, with his family suspecting that a business dispute might have led to the murder.
Sadhan was reportedly involved in the cable TV business.
A case was filed at Badda police station on Monday afternoon over the murder, but no arrests have been made so far.
CCTV footage from the crime scene shows Sadhan sitting at a tea stall with three others when two men approach from behind and open fire on him before fleeing.
Sadhan collapsed immediately and was rushed to the National Heart Foundation, where doctors declared him dead.
His family members said that Sadhan had disputes with several individuals over his cable TV business in the area.
However, they refrained from naming any suspects at this time.
They urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and are hopeful the real motive will be uncovered soon.
Sadhan’s wife, Dilruba Akter, told Dhaka Tribune: “He may have been killed due to business reasons. He had business rivals, but I cannot name anyone right now. The police should investigate and identify the culprits.”
A police source stated that two suspects have been identified during the initial investigation and that operations are underway to arrest them.
While the exact motive is yet to be confirmed, the source added that police are primarily treating it as a murder stemming from a business conflict.
Sadhan’s wife filed the murder case, naming unknown individuals as the accused.
Badda police station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam said: “Two individuals were directly involved in the killing. A case has been filed, and we are working to identify the perpetrators.”
Aminul Islam, convener of Dhaka north BNP, said after the murder that police must investigate the motive behind the killing. "Those involved should be arrested and brought to justice without delay.”
