At least five people, including two teachers, were abducted on Saturday from different villages of Laxmichhari upazila in Khagrachhari district, Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The culprits behind the abductions are yet to be identified.
The abducted were Gouranga Chakma, 45, of Resarb Para, Suresh Chakma, 30, of Bakchhari village, Shamol Joyti Chakma, 40, from Nokabachhara, Alachy Marma, 38, of Labochhari and Binod Munda, 45, of Kudukchhari Bazar Para in Laxmichhari upazila of the district.
Among the abducted, Shamol Joyti Chakma was an assistant teacher at Barmachhari Junior High School and Binod Munda was an assistant teacher at Kudukchhari Junior High School.
Mohammad Enamul Hoque, from the district’s Special Branch of police, said they could not identify a motive behind the abductions, but they have been trying to rescue those abducted.
Pradipon Khisa, chief organiser of the Khagrachhari District United Peoples Democratic Front, condemned the abductions and called for the villagers to be rescued as early as possible.
