Freedom fighter hacked by Shibir men

A group of Islmai Chhatra Shibir allegedly hacked a freedom fighter at his residence in Bandura village of Nawabganj upazila under Dhaka Friday.

The victim was identified as Sukkur Ali, 60, a resident of the village.

Police said four Shibir cadres barged into Sukkur’s house around 12:15 am while he was watching television. They started hacking him indiscriminately with sharp weapons and left him critically injured.

Sukkur was admitted to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex.

Sukkur alleged the local Shibir men had long been threatening him for taking part in processions held in the area demanding capital punishment of the war criminals.

“Over phone, they used to threaten of killing me but I ignored their words,” he said.

Sub-Inspector of Nawabganj Police Station M Sohel Rana said action would be taken in this connection after receiving legal complaint.
