Members of Rapid Action Battalion in separate drives arrested seven alleged members of a gang of intercity-robbers from different areas of the capital early Saturday.
Rab-2 officials claimed the gang, comprising at least 25 members and dividing into four teams, committed more than 50 incidents of robberies in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Feni and Comilla.
The detainees are identified as Bappi, 25, Jahangir Hossain, 32, Mosharraf Hossain, 25, Md Siraj, 20, and Md Liton, 30, of Comilla, Liton Chakraborti, 25, of Chittagong, and Md Anwar Hossain, 30, of Brahmanbaria.
Rab officials said they also recovered a grill cutter, a machete, a range, two knives and six mobile handsets from the possessions of the detained persons. Major Raqibul Amin of Rab-2 said acting on a tip off they arrested three members of the gang near Satrasta intersection in the capital’s Tejgaon industrial area.
On information, extracted by those three detained persons, the Rab men arrested four more members of the gang at different other places, he said.
“All the detained persons are the members of an inter-district robbers’ gang, who had been committing robberies since last six years being divided into four separate groups under four team leaders”, said Major Raqibul.
