Oishee alleges police torture

Oishee Rahman, the girl accused in the murder of her parents, a Special Branch inspector and a housewife, has claimed that police tortured her physically and mentally to intimidate her into giving a confessional statement.

Shortly after she was denied bail at a Dhaka court yesterday, Her lawyers Prakash Ranjan Biswas and Mahbub Hasan Rana told the Dhaka Tribune that Oishee had informed them about several male police officers who tortured her physically and mentally, eventually compelling her to give the confessional statement under section 164.

According to Oishee’s lawyers who quoted her saying, “They told me if I will not deliver the confession, they would kill me by injecting me with drugs or in a crossfire,”.

However, she now says what she told the court was neither true nor given willingly.

A plea was made to the court for the withdrawal of her confessional statement. The court fixed September 5 for hearing the petition.

Earlier Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ehsanullah rejected a petition for bail by Oishee submitted on September 1.

Police produced her before the court around 11am.

Special Branch Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Shapna Rahman were killed at their own residence in the capital’s Chamelibagh area on August 14.

Oishee was taken into remand for five days after she surrendered herself at the Paltan police station on August 17.

Afterwhich she gave a confessional statement in court admitting that she killed her parents.
