The activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its associate student body Islami Chhatra Shibir Wednesday exploded crude bombs and vandalised vehicles in several parts of the capital and in some district towns including Narayanganj protesting the cabinet decision to drop the names of convicted war criminals from the voter list.
In the capital, some Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a sudden procession in Science Laboratory area around 9:30 am. As police tried to resist them, the Jamaat-Shibir men blasted a crude bomb and vandalised 5-7 vehicles in the area, reports UNB.
Jamaat-Shibir men also brought out separate processions at Amtoli in Banani, Nabisco Crossing in Tejgaon Industrial areas, Hatirpool Bazar under Kalabagan Police Station and Bata Crossing in Elephant road area in the morning.
Police detained 17 suspected Jamaat-Shibir men, including two from Tejgaon Industrial area, three from Hatirpool Bazar, four from Amtoli, four from Bata Crossing and four from Science Laboratory areas.
In Narayanganj, some Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a surprise procession at Charargop in the city, and set fire to the road by pouring petrol about 10am.
