Two held over gang rape of woman, daughter in Noakhali

Two men have been detained for their involvement in the abduction and gang rape of a woman and her daughter in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali.

The detainees are identified as Hasan, 36, and Harun, 32.

The rape survivor filed a complaint at Companiganj Police Station on Saturday night.

The incident took place on October 20.

The woman said: "My husband works as a covered-van driver in Chittagong. At home, it’s just me, my daughter and my brother-in-law. We live in a relatively isolated area with few houses nearby.”

She added: “Around 11pm last Sunday, six young men came to our house, broke in, and tied up my brother-in-law. They then took my daughter and me outside."

She said: "The attackers looted money and other valuables from our house and threatened us to keep silent. After receiving no justice from local community leaders, I went to the Charbalua police outpost on Saturday afternoon to file a verbal complaint."

Sub-Inspector Md Shahadat, in-Charge of the Charbalua police outpost, said: "After receiving the verbal complaint, we launched an operation and detained Hasan and Harun. Later, both the survivors and the suspects were sent to Companiganj police station via river route."

Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gazi Muhammad Fouzul Azim said: "Based on the victim’s complaint, police have detained two individuals. The survivors have been brought to the police station. A case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act will be filed in this connection."
