Altercation over eating chatpati leads to one death in Dhamrai

A man was killed in a clash following a dispute over eating chatpati in Dhamrai of Dhaka on Thursday night.

The deceased was Mahbubur Rahman, 55, a resident of the Swarnakhali area of Dhamrai's Sadar Union.

Locals apprehended the accused Bazlu and handed him over to the police. The accused Bazlu is also a resident of the same area.

The incident occurred in the Aingan area of Dhamrai Municipality around 8pm.

Eyewitnesses reported that a fight broke out between the two over a debate about eating chatpati.

At one stage of the altercation, Mahbub fell unconsicous.   

He was declared dead by doctors upon arrival at the Dhhamrai Upazila Health Complex.

Dr Ahmedul Haque Titash, the resident medical officer (RMO) of the health complex, stated that Mahbub was brought in dead.

There were no significant signs of injury on the body, which has been kept at the hospital.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Kausar Mahmud of Dhhamrai Police Station said that police are investigating the matter.
