Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested former senior secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Shah Kamal.
He was arrested from Mohakhali area under an operation of the detective branch of DMP on Saturday night.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Public Relations and Media Wing of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) M Obaidur Rahman confirmed the matter.
Earlier on Friday, DMP conducted a raid and recovered cash worth around Tk3.11 crore, including local and foreign currencies, from the house of Shah Kamal on Babar Road in Mohammadpur.
Shah Kamal served as secretary from 2015 to 2019 and senior secretary from 2019 to 2020.
Of the Tk3.11 crore recovered, Tk3.01 crore was in cash, Tk74,400 was in prize bonds and Tk10.03 lakh was in various foreign currencies.
Police officials said that former secretary Shah Kamal kept these illegally earned money at home.
After the change of government, he went into hiding.
