In separate incidents at Lalmonirhat and Jhenaidah, two Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly picked up by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), while BSF allegedly caused panic in Panchgarh border area Wednesday.

A fisherman was taken away around 7am from the Dharla river near Durgapur border in Lalmonirhat’s Aditmari upazila. He was identified as Bijoy Roy, 28, from Mohishtuli village.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources said Bijoy was fishing when he was allegedly picked up by a BSF patrol.

BGB sent a letter to BSF asking for the realease of the Bangladeshi national.

Commanding officer (CO) of Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Mahbubur Rahman said BSF had not responded officially but had agreed to hold a flag meeting tomorrow.

In Jhenaidah, BSF allegedly picked up a Bangladeshi national from Bagharnal inside Indian territory. He was identified as Faisal Ahmed, 29, from Laraighat village of Moheshpur upazila.

Lieutenant Colonel Gazi Asaduzzaman, CO of BGB Chuadanga camp said Faisal was arrested around 6:30am when he illegally entered Indian territory.

The CO said at a flag meeting held Wednesday afternoon, BSF informed that Faisal had been handed over to local Indian police.

In another incident at Malkadanga Paharipara in Panchagarh’s Boda upazila, BSF personnel allegedly crossed into Bangladeshi territory and exploded sound bombs.

BGB sources said according to locals, nearly 20 BSF men from Daikhata camp entered Bangladesh around noon Wednesday and attempted to grab some goats.

A scuffle broke out when local residents resisted, which prompted the BSF men to explode several sound bombs to create panic in the area.

BGB men from Danakata camp were informed and rushed in. A protest letter was sent to BSF regarding the incident, reports UNB. A battalion commander’s flag meeting between the two border forces was held to settle the matter.
