Police recovered the body of a newborn baby inside the premises of the bungalow of the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University on Thursday which was thrown from outside.
A cleaner of the VC residence found a bag containing the body of the newborn.
Dhaka University Proctor Prof Dr Md Maksudur Rahman confirmed the matter.
“From the CCTV footage, we saw that a man threw the body from the side of the staff quarter of the Rokeya hall. The law enforcement agency was informed about this. We are trying to identify the criminal from the CCTV footage,” said the proctor.
Later, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further proceedings.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr A S M Maksud Kamal said: “The campus is quite open as there is no boundary wall around the entire university. There are a lot of outsiders and traffic, which is not consistent with the overall environment of the university. We are working with concerned authorities including law enforcement, city corporations, and the road department to make the campus safer. Security checkpoints have already been installed at the campus entrances.”
