Three more held over rape of Khulna woman during theft incident

Three people were arrested over the rape of a woman at Rauli village in Khulna's Paikgachha upazila.

The arrestees are the main accused Imamul Jawaddar alias Enamul, Enamul’s mother Rashida Begum and Goldsmith Suman Halder.

With this, four people have been arrested in this case till now.

Khulna Additional Superintendent of Police Sushant Sarkar gave this information in a press briefing on Friday afternoon.

He said: “She is a victim of anaesthetic drugs and trauma. So while speaking she did not say anything about rape. However, at the hospital, she was tested for rape with the necessary evidence. The police are awaiting the report from the hospital.”

The survivor’s daughter said that her mother has been talking since morning but cannot recall anything about the incident.

Investigations into the case are ongoing, said the police official. 

The rape survivor’s family said on Sunday night, some unidentified men entered the bedroom of the woman breaking the door of the stairs. Later, they tied the hands and feet of the housewife, glued her eyes and covered her mouth with tape before violating her. 

The rapists also hit her, they said.

The thieves fled with a pair of gold earrings and approximately Tk2 lakh, family members claimed.

Hearing her screams, the neighbours came and informed her husband.

The accused Enamul gave the stolen mobile to his mother Rashida Begum and sold the earring to Sumon Halder, owner of a shop called “Maa Jewellers”at Chuknagar for Tk5000. 

Police arrested him too. There are 9 cases against Enamul in Paikgachha police station and nearby police stations.
