The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sentenced three people to life imprisonment for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
A three-member bench of the ICT led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam delivered the verdict on Monday.
The convicts are AKM Akram Hossain, Aminuzzaman Faruk and Mokhlesur Rahman alias Tara.
Lawyers Abdus Sobhan Tarafdar and Abdus Sattar Palwan stood for the accused, while Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman represented the prosecution.
On July 26, 2017, the ICT’s investigation agency filed a report after investigating allegations of crimes against humanity committed by four razakars from Nakla in 1971.
Charges were pressed against them on October 31 of the same year.
On August 30, 2018, the tribunal formed charges against the accused on four counts and ordered the start of the trial.
During the trial, one of the four accused, Emdadul Haque Khaja, passed away.
