The Rapid Action Battalion has detained four madrasa teachers over the rape of a minor student at Muksudpur Upazila in Gopalganj.
The incident took place at the Banshbaria Parijaan Begum Mohila Qawmi Madrasa around 8pm on Wednesday.
Muksudpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ashraful Alam on Thursday said they were interrogating the detainees.
After detaining the four teachers in separate raids on Wednesday night, RAB members handed them over to the police station, according to the OC.
Quoting the rape survivor’s family, the OC said family members first took her to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex after seeing blood on her dress. “The survivor told her family that one of the teachers raped her,” he said.
Earlier on Thursday, the OC said the police did not find any teachers in the madrasa on the night of the incident.
Meanwhile, Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex duty doctor Dr Dwip Saha confirmed the rape incident, saying: “The girl was sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment as her physical condition deteriorated."
Evidence of rape was primarily found in the victim’s body, Dr Dwip added.
The survivor’s father, too, said that her daughter accused a madrasa teacher of this incident.
“She could not speak further as she fainted,” continued her father. “How could the teacher rape my daughter? I want justice for my daughter,” he said.
