Police suspected that the incident of raping mother-daughter duo in Noakhali’s Subarnachar was pre-planned by the accused.
Their intention was not to steal, but to rape, Noakhali Superintendent of Police Md Asaduzzaman said in a press briefing at Noakhali superintendent of police’s office on Wednesday.
Abul Khayer Munshi, 67, and Mehraj, 48, have been arrested so far in this case.
Another accused named Harun Prakash is absconding.
Police operation to arrest him is underway, the SP said.
The SP said: "Munshi used to address the woman as a granddaughter. He had been tempting the woman for a long time, making inappropriate proposals and asking her to take care of him since he has no wife. When the woman did not respond, Munshi became angry. A few days ago, the husband of the woman sold a cow. Munshi and Harun planned to enter the house by luring Mehraj, using the money from the sale.”
“Following the plan, around 2am on Monday, they entered the woman's house where they raped both the woman and her daughter. Later, they looted cash and gold from the house to make the incident appear as a theft. However, the victims identified Munshi and Harun," he added.
The accused will be sent to the court on Wednesday afternoon to record their statements under Section 164 and apply for remand.
