Moktar Hossain, 30, president of ward-25 (Rampura) of Sramik League, the labour wing of the ruling Awami League, was killed in the city Wednesday.
He died around 12:15pm in Dhaka Medical College Hospital after he was admitted there in a critical condition.
Earlier, he was found Wednesday morning with stab injuries in the city’s Malibagh area.
Contacted after the attack, Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Rampura police station, said unidentified assailants left Moktar in the Malibagh area after stabbing him.
Moktar exhibited 10-12 stab injuries in his body.
Police suspect prior enmity could have led to the attack on the Sramik league leader.
However, Delwar said police were looking into whether there were other motives behind this incident.
