Zia trust graft case: Charge framing hearing deferred for sixth time

A Dhaka court Sunday granted an extension by nearly a month for formally charging BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and three others in connection with the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

Judge Md Motahar Hossain of Special Judge Court-3 passed the order after Khaleda’s lawyer, Mahbub Uddin Khokon, submitted a petition seeking adjournment of a hearing for framing charges in the case, which was filed two years ago.

Khaleda could not appear before the court Sunday due to a party meeting, her lawyer said.

The defence lawyer prayed for an adjournment on the grounds that a separate petition for quashing the case was pending before the High Court Division.

The court fixed September 16 as the next date for hearing the framing of charges against Khaleda and other three accused.

This was the sixth deferment of the hearing, which was due to be held Sunday following an earlier adjournment on July 21.
