BNP Blockade: 3 arrested over bus torching incidents

Three people were arrested in connection with the vandalism and torching of passenger buses in Mohammadpur and Dhanmondi in Dhaka during the blockade called by BNP and like-minded parties. 

The arrestees are Md Nannu, 41, Shahjalal Shikder, 50 and Amir Hasan, 25. 

RAB-2 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Senior ASP Shihab Karim confirmed the matter on Sunday morning.

He said: “The arrests took place in various areas of Dhaka in connection with the torching of passenger buses in Mohammadpur and Dhanmondi areas of the capital. Among them, Nannu was arrested from Savar on November 7 afternoon, Shahjalal Shikdar was arrested from the Shyamoli area of ​​the capital on Thursday afternoon and Amir Hasan was arrested from Hazaribagh on Friday.”

The RAB official said: "On November 1, Nannu and Shahjalal Shikdar, along with their accomplices, blocked the main road in the Shyamoli Road area to carry out vandalism and arson activities. A case was filed at Mohammadpur police station, and they were arrested in connection with the incident."

On November 8, Amir Hasan and his group set a passenger bus on fire on Dhanmondi Zigatla road. They attacked civilians and law enforcement officers with local sharp weapons, making the law and order situation worse. They were later arrested in a case filed at Dhanmondi Model police station, he added.

The arrestees handed over to the local police station to take legal action against them, he furter added. 

According to RAB, on October 28, miscreants attacked people in places like Kakrail, Paltan, Fakirapool, and Motijheel in Dhaka. 

They targeted public and private transport, as well as government vehicles, through vandalism, arson, and assaults. They also attacked and vandalized the residence of the chief justice, injuring civilians and law enforcement officers on duty, leading to a deterioration of the law and order situation.
