Crude bombs go off at Panthapath

Two crude bombs were denoted by unidentified individuals in the Panthapath area of Dhaka on Thursday.

The incident took place in front Hotel Olio International around 2:40pm.

According to witnesses, crude bombs were hurled from above -- one fell on the road and the other on a tin-shed roof.

It is assumed that three crude bombs were hurled.

The incident occurred while a procession of the Awami League workers was passing the road.

The perpetrators have not been identified yet, said police.

A witness, Md Imran, said he came out hearing a sound and found people screaming on the street. There was also smoke.

Inspector Bijoy Kumar Das of Paltan police station told Dhaka Tribune: "Before coming here, we heard two crude bombs exploded, but after looking into CCTV footage we saw it was only fireworks. There is no evidence of crude bombs being exploded here. However, we are still investigating."

However, no damage was reported.

Police are also interrogating the staff of the hotel.
