Actor ATM Shamsuzzaman's convicted son’s body recovered in Barisal

Police recovered the floating body of the younger son of late renowned actor ATM Shamsuzzaman from Jayanti river of Muladi upazila in Barisal on Monday.

The deceased was identified as ATM Khalequzzaman Kushal, 46.

On information, a team of Muladi police station recovered the body and brought it to the police station. 

Later, it will be sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Tuesday morning, said Mahabubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station. 

The OC said that local residents informed police after seeing the decomposed floating body.

The body was identified as ATM Khalequzzaman Kushal following an identity card, found from his pocket. 

After contacting the Sutrapur police station, it was confirmed that the body was the actor Shamsuzzaman's son, the police official added. 

The OC also said that it is believed that the body was floating in the river for four to five days. 

Moinul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sutrapur police station said that he contacted the victim’s family after receiving information from Muladi police station. 

The mother of the deceased Khalequzzaman said that he came out of the house on October 25, saying that he was going to Khulna.

 He last spoke to his mother on October 27.

His mother said that when he spoke at that time, he did not tell where he was staying. 

After getting the news, his family members left Dhaka for Muladi.

In 2014, Khalequzzaman was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his elder brother.

On March 13, 2012, the eldest son of Shamsuzzaman was stabbed to death by his youngest brother, ATM Khalequzzaman Kushol, then 33-years-old, at the family residence in Dhaka’s Sutrapur neighbourhood.

On June 25, 2012, police submitted charge sheet and on October 31 of the same year, the court indicted Khalequzzaman.

ATM Shamsuzzman filed a case with Sutrapur police station following the murder. Shortly after the incident, police arrested Kushol from the house.

ATM Shamsuzzaman gave a deposition before the court against his own son on January 30, 2013.
