Narsingdi District’s Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Daman Tribunal yesterday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a minor in 2010. The tribunal also fined him Tk100,000, in default, or serve another year in prison.
The convict was Jewel, of Sultanpur village, Polash upazila, Narshingdi. According to the prosecution, on February 27, 2010 a minor girl was returning home from a school programme at night.Jewel followed her, took her to a deserted house and violated her. Locals rushed to the spot as the victim screamed for help.
They rescued her and sent her to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital in critical condition.Local people caught Jewel and handed him over to Polash police station.
A case had been filed with Polash police station. After investigation, the police submitted charge sheet against Jewel. Narsingdi District Nari O Shishu Nirjatan Daman Tribunal Judge Enamul Haque Bhuiyan, after examining the witnesses and relevant papers, found Jewel guilty and handed down the verdict
