Police have arrested Jatiya Party (JaPa) Vice-Chairman Kazi Ashraf Siddiqui in connection with a money embezzling case.
He was arrested from Tangail’s Dhaka-Sakhipur road on Saturday morning.
There are two cases going on in a Dhaka court against Ashraf Siddiqui on charges of embezzling money. The court recently sentenced him to six months in prison in the two cases. Police arrested him after receiving a court warrant.
Sakhipur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Shahinur Rahman said: "The JaPa leader received a six-month sentence in two Dhaka court cases. Police arrested him, and he was sent to court on Saturday afternoon."
Kazi Ashraf Siddiqui has been serving as the vice-chairman of the Jatiya Party's central committee for a long time.
He contested the parliamentary elections twice for the Jatiya Party from the Tangail-8 (Basail-Sakhipur) constituency.
