A leader of Jubo League, the youth wing of the ruling Awami League, was shot to death in Manirampur upazila of Jessore on Monday.
The victim, Uday Shankar Biswas, 43, hailing from Panchakardi village in Manirampur, held the position of president in Jubo League's Nehalpur union unit. He was an assistant professor at Nehalpur School and College and presided over the managing committee of Teghor Girls High School.
According to both local residents and the police, Uday was on his way home from a local market at approximately 7:30am when unknown assailants opened fire on him and quickly fled the scene.
He succumbed to his injuries on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Manirampur police station OC Md Moniruzzaman said the police were investigating the motive behind the incident.
“He could have been shot from behind,” he added.
