Poultry farm owner killed over alleged land dispute

A poultry farm owner was killed, allegedly over a dispute involving land ownership, in Bauni village in the district’s Shreepur upazila.

The deceased, Jamal Uddin, 32, son of late Abdul Khalek, was found on the road in front of the house of one Harun-ur-Rashid, a resident of the village, on Friday. He had been missing since Thursday night after he received a phone call and went out of his house.

According to Abdul Baten, Jamal’s father-in-law, Jamal had done some grocery shopping before returning home at 8:30pm on Thursday; coming back he received a phone call and went out of the house again. Jamal has been missing ever since. On Friday, locals found his dead body on the road and informed the police. The body was later sent to Gazipur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Sub-Inspector Apan Kumar of Shreepur police station said the body had marks of injury at several different places including the throat and the chest. Rahela Khatun, Jamal’s wife, filed a murder case and pointed out some possible suspects but the police refuse to reveal their names, stating that a proper investigation is needed.

However, according to his family, Jamal’s death centred a dispute over land.
