Pirates abducted two fishermen in Sundarbans on Sunday and demanded Tk200,000 as ransom.
Abdul Alim, 28, and Shahjahan Ali, 35, were kidnapped from Shonakhali canal, reports online newspaper Banglanews24.com.
Family members of the two said, gang members demanded the ransom money be paid within three days otherwise, abductors would kill the duo.
Two fishermen Abdur Rahim and Keshob Hawlader, who witnessed the incident, said they went to the Sundarbans along with four other fishermen, including Abdul Alim and Shahjahan Ali on Friday.
Later, while they were fishing, a group of pirates came around last night at around 10pm, and asked for tokens for their boats. At the time there were at least 50 boats, amongst them three were found anchored in the harbor without tokens. For this reason, the gang abducted the pair, they added.
Aslam Khan, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar police station, said they did not receive any complaints in this connection.
However, he added that legal action would be taken after receiving complaints.
