Three girls, aged between 7 and 9, are fighting for life at the one-stop crisis centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital after they were raped in several places of the capital in the last two days.
Nine-year-old Asma (not genuine name) came to Dhaka a few days ago with her mother from Rajapur of Barisal to visit her father, who pulls rickshaw and stays at a tin-shed house in East Rampura area.
Around 9am yesterday, an unidentified youth took her to the rooftop of a nearby three-storey building luring her of giving candies, and then forcedly raped her.
As the girl screamed, the boy fled the scene. Locals rescued the girl from the rooftop and took her to the hospital.
Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rampura police station, told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have already raided different places of the area to arrest the culprit.”
A case has been filed with the police station.
In Turag police station area, Nancy, 7, was violated forcibly by a garment worker named Rasel, 16, around 12:30pm on Wednesday. Local people caught the rapist and handed him over to the police station. The girl was a class two student of a local school.
A police constable took the victim to DMCH. A case was filed with the police station, said OC Mohammad Sheikh Farid.
In Hazaribagh, 26-year-old Abdullah was caught by locals as he raped seven-year-old Pingky on Wednesday noon.
Student of a Noakhali madrasa, she came to Dhaka with her mother a few days ago.
The rapist was handed over to Adabar police station and a case was lodged against the perpetrator, said OC Shamimur Rashid Talukdar.
