A CNG-run autorickshaw driver was killed when his vehicle overturned after being hit by a covered van in Dhaka's Jatrabari area early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Md Sumon, 36 of Niamati village in Bakerganj upazila of Barisal. He was a father to two daughters and a son, residing with his family in a rented house in Hazaribagh.
The incident happened at the Rayerbagh bus stand around 3am on Friday, confirmed Jatrabari police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Rafiqul Islam.
Sumon was rescued and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, SI Rafiqul said quoting witnesses.
The deceased's uncle, Al Amin, said: "Last night, Suman went out in his CNG auto-rickshaw. I received the news early this morning that my nephew died due to a road accident.”
Police seized the covered van and arrested the driver.
