Detectives have arrested a student of Jagannath University on charges of fraudulent assurance of success in admission tests from Dhaka’s Gendaria.
Md Abu Musa Asari, fourth year student of the Film and Television Department, during preliminary interrogation admitted to embezzling thousands by cheating several candidates.

The arrestee was identified as of Jagannath University, confirmed Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Wari Division DB Md Ashraf Hossain.
Musa was detained during a raid in Narinda in a case filed with Jatrabari police station on Saturday. Two fake identity cards of the University Grants Commission, several fake NID cards, and copies of the admission cards of several university admission candidates were seized from him
According to the police, Musa, a Madrasa student hailing from Barisal’s Bakerganj, used to introduce himself as a high official of Directorate General of Health Services, DC Ashraf said.
According to the brother of a victim, Musa was caught red-handed when he arrived to receive Tk1 lakh in payment. The detainee had taken Tk2 lakh a day before, claiming that he would be able to ensure admission into a medical college’s dental unit.
He targeted university and medical college admission seekers, especially weaker students.
“Musa convinced the victims by sending fake screenshots of his students being admitted into universities via Facebook messenger,” the DB DC further said.
