Members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested a top commander of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) in a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar early Wednesday.
Hafez Jubayer, 32, was arrested in camp No 19 at around 4am along with four guns, 32 rounds of ammunition, bullet casings and two walkie-talkie sets.
Md Faruk Ahmed, assistant superintendent of police of APBn-8, disclosed the information at a press briefing around 12:30pm.
Based on secret intelligence, a team of the APBn conducted a drive in the area and arrested Jubayer, said the official.
During primary interrogation, the arrestee confessed that he took six months of training from Arsa in a remote hilly area of Myanmar. He recently came to the camp to meet his family members.
He will be turned over to Ukhiya police, said the APBn official.
