Journalist leaders on Friday (today) warned of a tougher movement after Eid-ul-Fitr for arrest of the killers of journalist couple Sagor-Runi as they remained at large after a long time of the incident.
The warning came from a human chain programme, organised by the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), demanding arrest of the killers of the journalist couple in front of the National Press Club here.
The DUJ leaders lamented that none of the trial of journalist killings other than only partial trial of Goutam Das murder at Faridpur was held during the last two decades.
DUJ president Omar Faruque, general secretary Saban Mahmud, treasurer Mafizul Islam, Organising secretary Khandoker Mozammel Haque, executive member Abul Kalam and Kanchan Kumar Dey, among others, spoke at the programme.
Highlighting different journalist killing incidents during the BNP-Jammat alliance government, they said the journalist community does not expect the cruel behaviour of the BNP-Jamaat government from the present government.
They said it is unfortunate that a faction of journalists has escaped from the movement for the trial of the Sagar-Runi killing due to their own political and group interest.
