Bike theft ring busted with 24 stolen motorcycles in Chittagong

Police have arrested a motorbike theft gang, who were responsible of stealing over hundreds of vehicles in last five years, in Chittagong.

Police also recovered 24 stolen bikes from the five-member gang.

The arrestees are Mithun Dhar, 29, Md Babar alias Babul, 35, Md Shahad, 26, Md Ripon, 40, and Md Khorshed Alam, 29.

Among the five, Mithun is the ringleader of the gang, said Mustafizur Rahman, deputy commissioner (south) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in a press briefing at his office on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from Kotwali Police Station first arrested Mithun and Babar along with a stolen motorbike from Chittagong Railway Station area on Saturday, said Mustafizur.

Later, based on their information, the police team with the help of Sandwip police station started raiding different areas of Sandwip upazila and arrested the rest three along with other 23 stolen motorbikes. 

The official said during the investigation, police found that after stealing, the gang members used to take the motorcycles to Sandwip island and sell each bike at Tk15,000 to Tk30,000.
