Aminbazar Killing: Families sought for Speedy Tribunal

Families of the six students, who were brutally beaten to death in Capital's outskirt Aminbazar last year on Shab-e-Barat night, on Monday demanded that the case be sent to Speedy Trial Tribunal and punishment be meted out to the real criminals.

They made the demand at a press conference held on Sunday in Dhaka by 'Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh.' The victims’ families claimed that the accused, who are now on bail, are threatening them.

They also demanded that bail granted to the accused be cancelled.

Freedom fighter Sheikh Abdur Rashid, father of a deceased Sheikh Md Tipu Sultan, read out his written speech at the press conference.

Kazi Nazma Sultana, mother of Md Tipu Sultan, Abu Taher, father of the deceased student Ibrahim Khalil, Abdul Kader, father of Kamruzzaman, Sahanur Begum, mother of Tauhidur Rahman Polash, and locals from Savar-Aminbazar were present at the press conference.

The six deceased students were found innocent in all seperate investigations conducted by police, an independent judicial body, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Rapid Action Battalion in a robbery case which was filed against them. Police later filed a murder case.

It was claimed in the press conference that the case is not moving forward, though two years have elapsed since the incident.

The criminals are threatening the members of the families with action after the bail of Akil Khondokar. The family of the only alive student Al Amin after the killing incident, expressed fear that he may come under attack at any time.

The case has been made weakened by implicating 60 persons in the charge sheet as criminals, claimed Al Amin.

He added that about 15-17 people attacked them that night. His life is now at stake as the criminals are now on bail.

It is alleged that a few drug peddlers had beaten these youths to death.

Locals Abdul Malek, Hamid, Ajgor Ali, Akil Uddin Khondokar, Abu Sayed and Alauddin filed a robbery case against the students after the killing.

Later, Rab submitted a charge sheet clearing the students and accused Malek, Hamid and Akil for killing those six teenagers.
