10 JMB men to die for 2005 Gazipur court attack

A Dhaka court today sentenced 10 members of the banned Islamist militant outfit JMB to death by hanging for killing eight people in a suicide bomb attack on Gazipur court premises on November 29, 2005.

Md Motahar Hossain, judge of Speedy Trial Tribunal 4, gave the verdict at around 1:20pm.

The convicts are Enayetullah alias Walid, Arifur Rahman, Murshidul ul Islam alias Masud, Saidur Munshi, Abdullah Al Shohail, Nizamuddin Reza, Tayebur Rahman alias Hasan, Ashraful Islam, Md Shafiullah alias Tarique, and Adnan Sami alias Jahangir.

On that day in 2005, Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) carried out suicide bomb attacks simultaneously in Gazipur and Chittagong, killing eight people in the former, including lawyers and members of the police, and injuring 100 others.

A member of the ‘suicide squad’ of JMB, disguised as a lawyer, carried out a bomb attack at the hall room of Gazipur Bar Association, at about 9:45am.

Sub-inspector Alamgir Hossain of Jaydevpur police station filed a case in this connection on the same day.

The investigation officer of the case, ASP (CID) Ismail Hossain submitted the charge sheet on July 4, 2007.
