New Market mayhem: Dhaka College forms inquiry committee

The Dhaka College authorities have formed an investigation committee to identify students who were involved in the clashes in the New Market area.

On Monday, a three-member committee headed by Professor Akhil Chandra Biswas was formed. The committee has been asked to report within five working days.

Dhaka College acting principal Prof ATM Moinul Hossain confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

He said: " An investigation committee has been formed by the college administration to find out whether our students were involved in the clashes [on April 19]. The next course will be taken as per the report of the committee."

At least two people have died from the injuries sustained during the violent clashes.

The law enforcers have detained over half a dozen students of Dhaka College for questioning after their photos, wearing helmets and carrying sharp weapons, and a video showing a student hacking shop worker, went viral on social media and newspapers.

Two murder cases filed over the deaths are investigated by the Detective Branch (DB) of police.

On April 24, members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police and elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted an operation and detained a Chhatra League activist from the International Hall.
