Police on Saturday arrested three people in the capital suspecting their alleged involvement in robbery, while impersonating detective police.
The arrests were made in a special drive conducted in the capital’s Mohakhali bus terminal area at around 2am.
The arrestees were identified as Hossain, Babu and Jasim.
At least seven other suspects managed to flee the scene, police said adding that it could be a 12-member gang.
Tejgaon Police Station sub-Inspector (SI) Anwar Hossain said police got information that 10 members of the gang were operating in the area, using a microbus.
Police also learnt that they assaulted police source Mamun, Liton and local vendors Alamin and Shafiq, and robbed a petrol pump in the area, Anwar said.
When police tried to chase the microbus down, the suspected robbers retaliated by stabbing SI Mofizul Islam whom they found alone, he said
Finally when the law enforcers managed to stop the microbus near the Mohakhali bus terminal area, seven fled the scene.
Police seized the microbus and recovered equipment such as walky-talky sets used by police and three bags containing money.
