A 16-year-old girl has been gang raped by eight youths in Natore’s Naldanga upazila.
Five of the accused rapists were arrested from the Chhatni area of the upazila in the early hours on Friday, said Munsur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Natore Sadar police station.
The girl had left her home after a fight with her mother on Thursday afternoon, he said.
"She lost her way while going to her grandmother's housein the evening. When she asked the accused for help, they took her to a deserted cremation ground and took turns to rape her," the OC said.
Locals spotted the girl in the late hours of Thursday and dialed 999. They also caught five of the youths and handed them over to the police.
The other three suspects managed to escape in the darkness.
The survivor has been admitted to a hospital for medical examination, and her father filed a case with the police on Friday accusing eight people over the incident.
