A Chhatra League leader has been beaten to death over a feud in Gazipur’s Sreepur.
The incident was reported in the evening from near the Awami League office of the Kaoraid Union on Thursday night, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandaker Imam Hossain of Sreepur police.
The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Nayan Sheikh of Beldia village. He was a presidential hopeful of the Kaoraid Union Chhatra League unit.
The victim’s family has accused one Khairul Islam of killing Nayan in a pre-planned manner.
Khairul is a resident of the same village and an activist of Awami Juba League.
According to the victim's family, Khairul’s 14-year-old son Anubhav Mir went to play cricket at Kaoraid KN High School ground on Thursday noon where he had a quarrel with a boy from Beldia village next door.
The boy lodged a complaint regarding the matter with Nayan. Afterwards, Nayan called Anubhav to the Kaoraid Union Awami League office and beat him up.
Hearing the news, Anubhav's father went to the office and asked Nayan the reason for torturing his son, which led to an argument. At one stage, Nayan hit Khairul on the head with a chair and injured him.
Aggravated by this, Khairul’s aides beat him up severely, leaving him dead on the spot, the OC said.
Ratan Sheikh, the elder brother of the deceased, alleged that Khairul had pre-planned the murder.
“No official complaint has been received in this regard yet,” added the OC.
