Private TV employee Arman confesses to raping stepdaughter

Arman Hossain alias Suman, who was arrested from Moghbazar in Dhaka on Wednesday on charge of raping his stepdaughter, confessed to the crime on Tuesday. During primary interrogation, he also claimed that he had married the girl, while the investigation officials concerned said he could not show any evidence of marriage to substantiate his claim. Asked if a man can marry his stepdaughter according to the Muslim marriage law, Arman remained silent. However, the victim said Arman did not marry her. The victim, aged 20, filed two separate cases – one under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, and the other under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act -- with Ramna police station on Tuesday night. According to the case filed under the ICT act, Arman had started to sexually abuse his stepdaughter when she was just twelve. He had also been filming the moments of rape and blackmailed her with the clips. Meanwhile, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain Tipu granted a two-day remand to the accused after police produced him before the court with a five-day remand plea. Nazmul Islam, additional deputy commissioner of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told the Dhaka Tribune that they had gleaned some vital information in this regard and were verifying the information.
