Prime accused held in gang rape of newly married woman in Patiya

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested the prime accused of case filed for gang-raping a newly married woman in Chittagong’s Patiya Upazila.

The arrestee was identified as Md Hannan, 32, confirmed RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) Mahmudul Hasan Mamun on Sunday.  

The elite force nabbed the prime accused from College Bazar area under Karnaphuli police station in the city on Saturday night.

According to the case documents, four men gang raped the victim after tying her husband to a tree when they were going to her in-laws’ house on June 7. Later on June 15, a case was filed with Patiya police station accusing four men.

Later on June 18 and September 9, RAB-7 members nabbed three other accused of the rape case – Jewel, 28, Mintu, 33, and Abu Taher alias Montu, 30.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to violating the woman along with their accomplices.
