Two murdered in Lakshmipur, Cox’s Bazar

A man has been killed in an attack by alleged rival group members over offering munajat (prayers) in Lakshmipur.
The victim is Nur Hossain, 50. His elder brother Jakir Hossain was also injured in the incident.
Police said a brawl ensued in the sadar upazila’s Madhya Kalichar village on Friday night over making munajat at Juma prayers that was offered earlier in the day.
Nur Hossain was critically injured in the attack. Later on, he died on Saturday morning after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Confirming the matter, Laxmipur Sadar police station’s Officer-in-Charge Lokman Hossain said they arrested three people in this connection.
Meanwhile, a land dispute with a neighbour caused the murder of a 28-year-old man in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Abdur Rahim of Cox’s Bazar Sadar police station said the victim Saiful Islam had a heated altercation with Shahab Uddin over a piece of land around 11:30pm on Thursday.
At one stage, the duo engaged into scuffle. All of a sudden, Shahab Uddin stabbed Rahim, the SI said, quoting witnesses.
Severely wounded, Rahim was admitted in a local hospital where he died on Saturday morning. However, the accused has been on the run since the incident.
