Police have arrested a man for killing his 15-day old daughter by drowning her in a pond in Shatkhira's Shyamnagar.
Ashraful Islam, the infant's father, killed his child on Thursday at Ichhakur village because he had wanted a son, police said.
Shyamnagar police Officer-in-Charge Syed Abdul Mannan said Ashraful had confessed to the murder.
"His first child is a daughter and this time he wanted a boy," the OC said.
"He was furious when his second child was born a girl. So, he threw the infant in a pond and killed her on Thursday."
Locals contacted police after seeing the infant's body floating in the water.
OC Mannan said they detained the infant's father Ashraful as a suspect, who later confessed to killing his child.
