4 arrested for gang-raping woman in Madaripur

Police arrested four men accused in a case filed for reportedly gang-raping a woman in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur on Wednesday night.

The arrested were Mahabul Mridha, 30, Omor Faruk, 26, Masud Molla, 25, and Md Hawlader, 24, all of Kathalbari area of Shibchar upazila, confirmed Shibchar police station's OC Abul Kalam Azad.

According to locals and Shibchar police, the woman boarded a ferry from Kathalbari in the evening to reach Shimulia terminal where her husband was waiting for her.

The accused lured her to a speedboat from the ferry, saying that they could take her to the destination faster.

They took her to an isolated place in a Char and raped her. Locals rushed to the spot upon hearing the woman's scream.

Shibchar police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Bishnapad Hira said upon being informed of the matter, police arrested Mahabul, Md Hawlader and Masud from the spot.

Another accused, Omor, was arrested after the case was filed by the victim's husband on early Thursday. The woman was sent to Madaripur Sadar Hospital for medical examination, confirmed SI Bishnapad.
