Imam hacked to death in Narayanganj

An imam has been allegedly hacked to death by a “mentally challenged” man inside a mosque in Narayanganj’s Rupganj. The deceased Abdul Majid Munshi, hailed from Tangail district. He worked at the mosque for over 20 years. Quoting locals, Rupganj police OC Ismail Hossain said: “Accused Jahirul Islam brutally hacked the imam during Isha prayer on Friday night and later swooped on another man when he obstructed.” “Both were rushed to Rupganj Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Abdul Majid dead,” the OC added. Local also said the accused Jahirul was a mentally challenged man and hacked his wife to death 10 years ago. “Majid’s body was taken to Rupganj police station and will be sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for an autopsy. We are trying to arrest Jahirul,” OC Ismail added.
