JKKNIU teacher sexual harassed own student

The probe committee, formed to investigate a sexual harassment case against lecturer Minhaz Uddin of Accounting and Information Systems department of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Mymensingh filed by a female student, has requested the university authorities to reform the committee. Professor AMM Shamsur Rahman, head of the probe committee, said: “The present committee did not start its work yet as the committee was not formed according to university law. However, the committee only submitted their primary investigation report on Thursday.” He said: “Following a High Court order, a probe committee form to investigate sexual harassment case must have 50-60 percent female members, while the five-member probe committee had only one female member.” That’s why we requested university authorities to reform the probe committee according the rules, added Shamsur Rahman. According to the complainant, Minhaz Uddin, who is a relative of the victim female student, developed a romantic and later sexual relationship with her with a promise to marry her. But recently, he started avoiding the student. But the teacher, who is married, claimed that all those allegations are false and demanded proper probe. The female student filed a case with Trishal police station on May 3. After filing the case police arrested the teacher on May 7 and now he is in jail, said Shamsur Rahman The student also lodged a complaint with the department on May 2 after which a five-member probe body was formed and asked to submit its report within seven working days, university sources said.
