Newlywed kills bride for protesting his extra-marital affair

A 16-year-old housewife has been strangled to death allegedly by her husband in Shibganj upazila of Bogra, just four months after their marriage. The victim is Sharmin Akter, daughter of Saidul Islam, who was married to a cloth trader named Raju Mia, 40, son of Shah Alam from the area. The victim's relatives alleged that Raju killed her as she protested his extramarital affair with Lipi Begum, who is the wife of their landlord. Raju, who has been absconding since the death, had an altercation with Sharmin on Wednesday night over the issue, they said, adding, the teenage bride was found dead the next morning. Interestingly, Lipi was the first person who informed police after noticing Sharmin's throat tangled with a scarf at their rented house. However, Lipi was detained for interrogation while the body was sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Shibganj police station's Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Kamruzzaman Mia said they started conducted raids to arrest Raju.
