3 families claim 2 slain Kallyanpur militants

Three families have identified two of the militants killed in Tuesday’s Kallyanpur raid as their sons. Of the militants, one who is seen in the middle on the third row in the photos released by police, has been claimed by two families. While one family from Noakhali is naming him as Jubayer Hossain, another family from Chittagong is claiming him to be Sabhirul Hoque Konik. Two families - one from Noakhali and the other from Chittagong - have claimed this militant whos picture was released by the DMP Abdul Kaiyum, driver of Al-Amin Biscuit Factory, claimed himself as the father of Jubayer, 20, and said his son ‘was’ a second-year student of political science at Noakhali Government College. He told the Dhaka Tribune Wednesday morning: “The boy in the middle of the third row in the pictures released by police is my son. I am 95% sure. He went missing on May 25.” “After the Gulshan attack, everyone was talking about missing people getting involved in militancy. So, we filed a general diary with Shudharam police in this regard on July 12,” Kaiyum said. He said they were preparing to go to Dhaka as per police instructions. Confirming about the general diary, Shudharam OC Anwar Hossain said: “Jubayer left home early on May 25, 2016 without informing his family. He never came back. Meanwhile, one Azizul Hoque from Chittagong has claimed the same youth as his son. He said Konik was a resident of resident of Perong Chora village and a fourth year student of International Islamic University Chittagong. Md Sazzad Rouf Orkom killed in the police raid in Kallyanpur The third youth on the second row of in the photo published by the police has been identified as Md Sazzad Rouf alias Arko, 24, a student of North South University. One Tawhid Rouf has claimed Arko to be his son. Tawhid told the Dhaka Tribune: “I have a feeling that it is our son Arko, but we will still be going to the morgue to make sure.” Arko's name was in the updated missing list released by the Rapid Action Battalion on July 25. According to the list, he has been missing since February 3 this year. Different sources have confirmed Arko to be a close friend of Nibras Islam, one of the Gulshan café attackers. “We are getting a lot of response from people after publishing the pictures online and in social media, but we will still have to verify the claims, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah said in a programme at Osmani Memorial Auditorium. Contacted, DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have heard about the matter and asked the families to come to Dhaka for confirmation. “The bodies will be handed over to the families only if their DNA matches,” he added. He also said: “Two families from Chittagong and Noakhali are identifying the same person –eighth in the picture-- as their son.” Nine militants were killed and one of their accomplices was taken in custody by the law enforcement agencies during the raid at a house in Kallyanpur. Police primarily suspect that they were members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
