3 suspected members of Sarwar-Tamim’s New JMB faction held

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained three members of a new faction of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (New JMB) from Savar with firearms and bomb-making materials. One of the detainees is identified as Tamim Dwari. RAB 8 Company Commander Major Abdul Hakim said: “Acting on a tip-off, we searched a bus of Village Line when it reached Fulbaria bus stand area and detained the three members Sarwar-Tamim group around 10pm on Thursday.” According to RAB, Sarwar Jahan alias Abdur Rahman alias Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif was the chief of New JMB while Gulshan attack mastermind Tamim was the second-in-command of the group. Confirming the matter, RAB Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said Tamim Dwari had converted to Islam and was a close associate of slain militant Tamim Chowdhury. A foreign made pistol, three rounds of bullets, IED-making materials and jihadi books were recovered from their possession. Details regarding the matter will be disclosed in a press briefing around 11am on Friday.
