Feni drug trader confesses to murdering child

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has unearthed the mystery behind three-year-old Shahidul Islam Abir's murder, in Feni, as a drug trader has confessed to murdering the child.

The drug trader, Towhidul Islam Johnny, has given his confessional statement to the court regarding the murder—under section 164—said CID Assistant Superintendent of police (ASP) Aktar Hossain, at his headquarters on Wednesday evening.

In the statement, Johnny confessed to having lured Abir—with the promise of chocolate—from where Abir was playing, to a nearby under-construction five-story building. He then tied him up and suffocated him to death, on October 24, 2015.

Later, he abandoned Abir's body in a nearby swamp, Johnny said.

He committed the murder because of a dispute between Johnny and Abir's father, Jasim Hazari.

The ASP furthered: "Police recovered Abir's decayed body from the swamp, the day after he was murdered. On that day, Abir's father Jasim Hazari lodged a case with the Feni Model police station, without naming anyone.

"On August 25, 2016, police submitted the final investigation report on the case, upon which it was transferred to the CID," he said.

Feni Model police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad said: "Towhidul Islam Johnny hails from Purba Ukilpara in Feni town. He has four cases against him; including regarding possession of illegal arms and drugs."
