Dhaka Metropolitan Police Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has seized a huge cache of firearms, ammunition and explosives during a raid in DOHS Baridhara area of Dhaka.
Upon searching a residential building in the early hours of Thursday, the unit found 50 detonators, two automatic handguns with 11 bullets, two shotguns with two shells, seven jihadi books, Tk3 lakh in cash and counterfeit local currency.
According to CTTC sources, intelligence report indicated that gang of militants is using an apartment in Baridhara as a hideout, and had stored firearms, ammunition and explosives there.
The law enforcers conducted the raid on January 17 with a search warrant, but found the apartment vacant. The CTTC unit broke down the door and found the weapons and explosives cache.
Three separate cases have been filed in the Cantonment police station in connection with the raid.
Police sources confirmed that such drives will be conducted in the future to identify and arrest militant suspects.
