Police, in overnight drives, have detained two more suspects in the Noakhali gang rape case.
The detainees are Jashim Uddin, alias Jaishya, 30, son of Motahar Hossain, from Char Jabbar thana area; and Hasan Ali Bhulu, 60, from the Double Mooring thana area.
In the early hours of Friday, Char Jabbar Thana police detained Jashim Uddin at Nazirhat area of Chittagong; while Double Mooring thana police detained Hasan Ali Bhulu from within the area.
The investigation officer of the case and Char Jabbar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Probe) Ibrahim Khalil said, acting on tip-off, a police team conducted a drive in Chittagong’s Nazirhat area and detained Jashim Uddin. He was not named in the case statements but his name came up following a police investigation.

The detainee has been brought to Noakhali from Chittagong and further drives are underway to detain the rest of the accused people in the case, he said.
The OC Ibrahim furthered that according the medical test results, doctors have found ample evidence that the victim was raped.

Meanwhile, Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Ilias Sharif confirmed the arrest of Hasan Ali Bhulu at the Double Mooring thana area.
With this latest development, a total of seven suspects, including the alleged mastermind Ruhul Amin, were detained in the case. However, three of the detainees were not mentioned in the case statements and police discovered their involvement during the investigation.

Earlier on Thursday, police detained two suspects. They are Ruhul Amin—an ex-member of Ward 4 under Charjubili union—and another suspect, Bechu.
Police sources say Ruhul instigated the gang rape incident.
On Wednesday, Detective Branch of police arrested two accused in the Noakhali gang rape case; one of whom is the prime accused.
The detectives arrested the prime accused, Sohel, during a raid on a brick field at Moheshpur in the Barura upazila, Comilla, on Wednesday afternoon.
The night before, they arrested the third accused—Swapan, 35—during a raid in the Azadnagar area, of the Ramgati upazila, in Lakshmipur.
A 30-year-old mother of four was gang-raped, allegedly by a group of local Awami League members.
The woman’s husband, who filed a case against nine people with Char Jabbar police station on Monday night, said the group of miscreants—wielding firearms—barged into their home around midnight, tied him and his children up, forcefully took his wife away from their home, and gang-raped her.
The husband claimed they had attacked his wife because she had voted for the local BNP candidate in the 11th general election held on December 30.
